Ian Harker

Born 1952 in Orange, NSW. Relocated to Melbourne, VIC in 1985.

I have always been interested in oil painting since I was a child, having grown up around fine artists such as Greg Turner, Tony Mason, Doug Sealy etc. I always had a great admiration for their beautiful paintings.

I began painting in 1977, I am a self taught painter with no formal lessons.

My passion for the Australian landscape has been my driving force, whether it be landscape, seascape, or in recent years, portraiture.

I have loved the challenge of recreating the beautiful and sometimes harsh landscape in which we live.

I have had successful exhibitions and have won Best Painting in country shows on several occasions in NSW.

Since moving to VIC, I have developed a great love for the southern landscape, be it the beautiful rivers, the mountains & rolling hills or rugged coastline.

I paint both in the studio and en plein air (on location) at times starting on location & completing the work in the studio.

I recently joined up with CAG (Craigieburn Arts Group) and SAS (Seymour Art Society).
