Summer Exhibition is on view in the gallery until March 7, 2018. Information centre volunteers are there to help if the public would like to purchase a painting. All works are for sale. Don't forget the small Charles August gallery, as the exhibition in there changes monthly.
Our art society participated on the 2017 Tastes of the Goulburn event with some artists demonstrating painting, some selling their products , a raffle and a display of paintings. We had lots of interest and pleasant chats with the general public.
Our 30th birthday celebration was attended by members, friends and past members of the Art Society. We included our annual awards presentations and were entertained by the Avenel Singers. This was followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea. Award winners for this year are Valma Crerar- Hanging Committee Artist of the Year and Wendy Webster - People's Choice Award.
The Spring Exhibition is now showing at our gallery in time for our 30th birthday event. The exhibition will run for three months and anyone can have a look between the hours of 9am to 5pm 7 days per week. Each time we run a new exhibition we select a best art work. This time our president, Valma Crerar has won with her acrylic painting titled, 'Late Afternoon in the High Country'.
Sunday, May, 28th saw 10 attendees at a pastel workshop given by Lynda Robinson. Lynda is a talented local artist and a life member of our society. She is very well know and her works are snapped up at art shows. Some of her beautiful works are able to be viewed on this website.
Everyone really enjoyed the day and learnt much. Some people had worked with pastel before and some were new to the medium.
All had a go at painting the same topic, which Lynda progressively demonstrated. After lunch people then tried their own work.
Pictured are artists and their work on the demonstrated painting, with some finished and others part way through.
Our society undertook painting in the Dementia Wing of Karingal, Seymour's aged care residence. We were asked to paint a scene on a wall to seem as if the viewer was looking through a window. Karingal's team of volunteers sold raffles to raise money to buy paint and supplies. Our president, Valma worked hard organising purchase and mixing of paint, artists to help and she then painted a small depiction of a scene to be reproduced. Many hours were spent working on the mural and the work provided entertainment for the residents and staff. The finished result is very pleasing to the eye. We have been asked to come back and paint another wall and many a staff member passed the remark that there were lots of walls that could be painted with a mural.
Sunday, 4th December we had the presentation of our Annual Awards and combined it with the opening of our new exhibition. We had open house from 2 until 4 pm, which included the awards presented by our president, Valma Crerar, Christmas Carols sung by the Avenel Singers, followed by afternoon tea.
A special presentation was made to Wendy Webster. She was given Life Membership for the wonderful work she has done for the society, She has contributed in many ways for many years and was the founder of our successful Art Beyond the Divide. Congratulations Wendy!
Congratulations to the Award winners for 2016:

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon and feel pleased with our latest works that are on display. In the main gallery we have a large exhibition, including a wide variety of styles and topics, presented in different media. This exhibition will be in show for three months. The smaller Charles August Gallery is showing our Small Treasures exhibition. In there you will find works proced under $100, which make great Christmas gifts.
